08 elk season tagged out
« on: November 05, 2008, 11:30:53 PM »

tagged out opening day of 08 elk season. went to my favorite hole with 3 other friends. Ron, Todd and Tom (aka caughtsteelin) covering the same slope, spaced out about 100yds. i had 3 legal bulls mixed in with 20+ cows for at least a half hr, b4 i could get a shot off. the bulls were below the cows behind trees and so on. there was a 5x5 3x3 and 4x4 plus a spike in the herd. i wanted the 5x5 of course but he never gave me a shot. finally the 4x4 stepped out from the rest just a tad. i took a neck shot @ 100 yds through a narrow gap in the trees. perfect shot, bull dropped in his tracks. i booked down to get a good look. A dam nice 4x4 was mine. The others took off and ran right up to my buddy Ron. Then another small herd came right passed me headed the same way. about 3 or 4 minutes later i hear Ron shoot. he shot a nice 4x5. Tom and Todd came over and helped us gut'em and then the work started we had 2 bulls down in a hole and 4 of us to quarter out and pack 3/4's of a mile back to camp. we had the 2 heads out and most of the first elk out when 3 of my buddies from my old camp showed up to help (thank god) it was an awesome hunt and back breaking pack but o so worth it. here are some pics.
