There I was layin' in bed snoring away. I wake up to the tune from The Good The Bad and The Ugly. On the line was CoryTDF yelling at me to wake up. They had just been skunked duck hunting due to a lying weatherman. A hasty plan was hatched for them to drop off the duck gear and pick me up and take me out to the ranch to tag out on my deer. I had to work at 1400 so time was short. I rolled out of bed still feeling the hops, brushed my teeth, grabbed my rifle and my go bag. I was sitting on my tailgate smoking a cigarrette when they pulled up. The truck was a Dodge, blue in color, sporting 37 inch tires and an excessively loud straight piped Cummins powerplant. The truck was packed with CoryTDF, Jordan, and YoungTender. Each man had a shotgun and a rifle, it was clear we were out for blood. We got in the beast and hit the road. As we approached our destination it was clear why the land owner was being issued tags. A heard of over 100 mule deer ran by at about 450 yards but would not present a safe shot due to overlapping deer. We continued down the road and began to glass for a tasty doe. 15 minutes later we found one, bedded roughly 100 yds in an eyebrow. I got out of the truck and assumed a good prone unsupported firing position and moved the selector switch from safe to fire. The deer was below me facing me laying down. I adjusted so that the hind quarters were clear from my backdrop and launched a 168Gr Sierra Game King across the grass and through her head. She never even stood up. The deed was done. We got the truck as close as we could and while Jordan gutted her I notched the tag and filled out the landowner permit.( Man I am a lucky guy) we mounted our mighty steed and continued on our journey. CoryTDF and Jordan found a little pond that held some mallards and got some jump shooting in. 2 ducks and a deer. I was at home just in time to change and put my rifle away and get to work. Washing what little blood I had on my hands off in the sink at work..... What a way to start the day

Good eats...wish I had tagged a deer this year.  Lucky for me I got some elk to gnaw on.

There was somewhat of a bet made that necessitated a head shot. That and who wants to lose meat to a bullet when the head shot is the same size target as a heart.
