BullElk,SageBrushStalker and myself went out and logged in 19 hours hunting time this weekend. Saw 28 coyotes, 9 of them in one draw. We were busting them out like quail. Temperature ranged from 13 deg to 24 deg with a 6 to 11 mph wind and crunchy snow and really noisy. All the action was on Sat morning. SageBrushStalker did the calling on a set and a double came in. I took the first shot at 210 yrds he got the 2nd at 220 as it took off running. I had decided to tube mine out since it was a nice male prime pelt so SageBrushStalker walked over to the next draw and kicked one out. He put it down at 320 yrds. It was the ugliest dog I've seen all year.  :chuckle:

I shot four 'yotes yesterday.  I only got pictures of two.  A buddy of mine was hunting in a coyote derby and stole my two morning coyotes before I could get a picture.  I started off the morning checking two dead cows - no coyotes!  I couldn't believe it?  I cruised back home and was going to do some calling in our canyons. but they were fogged in!  Damn it.  Jumped in the pickup and drove the the family farm.  I managed to knock two coyotes down in the seeded ground (walking sucked).   The first was running 200 yards straight away and the second was a 305 running left to right.  I missed one running straight away at 350.  After I bs'ed my buddies awhile (and they took my 'yotes), I headed back down to the river.  It had snowed about 1" and cleared up.  My brother and I spotted two coyotes on the top of the ridge and he ranged the back one at 425.  He stopped for a split second and I sent him to 'yote heaven.  The second coyote was about 1 mile down the canyon and was mousing at 416 yards.  Almost the same shot I had 1/2 hour before.  I gave him a 10" hold over, touched one off, and sent him into a 5o yard death run.  4 coyotes was not too bad for a slow, slow start.  Here are the two river dogs:

Dang JJ was going to see if you wanted to hook up saturday. I didn't have anybody to hunt with and sat home. Guess I should have contacted you. Great job!!!

Good job to you as well!  I wanted to enter a 'yote derby, but didn't have a full team so I just had my own derby on Saturday.  You should have sent me a PM, we might have won?

What a bummer!! I talked myself out of it. Had some honey do's and my props are pretty much in need of a rest. Didn't want to give you the impression I was trying to get into your hunting grounds as I don't have any to offer. I'll get with you next time though. Looks like I'm booked up next weekend but if you can get away during the week let me know.

You gave dogs to your buddies to enter in their derby? I dont mean to sound like an ass and mean no offense but no wonder I never win those derbies. I been doing it all wrong :chuckle:

Nice shooting by the way!

You don't sound like an ass at all.  To tell you the truth,  I was going to enter the derby, but the cheating has gotten so bad that it is impossible to win.  I asked if they wanted my coyotes kinda joking and they grabbed them so fast it made my head spin.   They were not the only ones, two rigs drove by my house and turned the spotlights about 1/2 mile down the road.   This was at 6 p.m. on Friday night and the derby didn't start til daylight on Saturday!  I decided right then that I would not enter.  I won with 4 dogs three years ago, but now the pot has gotten so big that it takes ten to win.  Some of the 'yotes look and smell a week old!  Four coyotes is a good day for one guy but wouldn't hold a candle in a derby.

I use the term "buddies" lightly.  How about aquaintances?
