Trapping a coyote....

Need some help....I'm new to trapping and I am turning to trapping out of necessity.  I have a coyote problem.  A dog or a couple have come in and killed chickens, a couple turkeys and a lamb.  I have not been able to get a pop shot on them since I think most of the activity is at night (late).  Anyways, can someone recommend a set or a way to trap a coyote in western WA.   Lots of youtube vids out there, but not a lot of vids from NW.  Any help would help!

trappn one alive isnt gonna be easy, are you not allowed to shoot them? if we could use leg holds it wouldnt be a problem, hey if they are a nussance maybe you can get a permit to use legholds, HUMPTULIPS would be the man to ask, good luck

I can shoot them and will if I get the opportunity.  I just never get a chance to get off a good shot.  How would you trap them with a foothold trap?

  cannot use footholds in wa, box type traps only. also yotes are very tricky to trap. might I suggest you get with a experienced yote caller and go a coyote set for them

well if they wont let you have a permit for legholds, then calling them will be your best bet, there are some damn fine callers on this very sight, some of them are in the coyote challenge, i am sure they would be happy to help you out...

If they're killing livestock you can get a permit to use leg holds and that would be your best bet to catch a yote.

Like big shooter said apply for a permit to use foothold traps. Go to watrappers.com there is a link for applying for the permit you need. Then hopefully you can catch your problem coyotes.

Contact a NWCO in your area, this time of the year he may even do it for free.  He already has the know how, the equipment and can walk you through the very easy permit process.

Yes you can get a permit for padded jaw traps but consider this, Coyote trapping is not easy for a beginner. To jump right into coyote trapping even with padded jaw traps is a big jump. I take it you don't even have any equipment or you would probably not even be asking about it.
Then there is the whole neighbor problem that may or may not be a problem but it is pretty hard to give advise without seeing the situation.
If you get an actual trapper he could at least advise you based on a site evaluation.
I doubt if you will get that done for free.
As far as using live traps which you could do without permit that is a real longshot. Longshot is probably understateing the difficulty.

I didn't read the post fully and didn't realize you were new to trapping. Bruce's advise is the best answer.

If you have power available near your livestock, put a radio out there, and leave it on 24/7.  Don't know if it will work for your current problem, but sure worked for me with foxes.  They were hitting my pheasants every night, as soon as things got quiet...most wild animals will avoid human voices.  It even worked for bears in Alaska.
