Two days in Kapowsin
« on: December 10, 2013, 08:07:53 PM »
No fur, just lots of tracks.  Using Foxpro caller, cottontail distress.  6 setups.  Fresh snow, very cool.  Will have to try again.

Was in there today and saw a nice big bull elk with a group of cows. Also saw my 8th bobcat of the year today not counting the ones on my cameras. Would be happy to show you where. It is VERY close to where I shot my cougar.

Nice looking caller and decoy.  I've never had any luck with an E-caller, though.  Had lots of replies to my mouth calls, though.  :twocents:  :dunno:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

Thanks Woodman.  I'll give you a call this week.  Heading back to work tomorrow.

Any idea why that is?  The foxpro uses actual animal/bird recordings so you'd think it wouldn't get any better than that - unless there is some 'electronic' quality to the recordings that impacts its effectiveness.

What mouth call do you find works the best for you?

I can't figure out why, unless it's just coincidence.  I have had good luck with my RR Calls Howlers and an RR Raspy and also to a Primos Double Whammy.  The Double Whammy does a good job of sounding like a pack of coyotes.

Did you notice the difference in the tracks in the first and second pictures? Second picture is bobcat tracks.

Where can you hunt around Kapowsin? All I know of is the public boat launch area... What elevation were you at to find snow?

At the time snow started near the first escapement road from the main gate.

Haha I had no idea you could get over there. Looking at the map I see the turn I go past every time I drive out there to go fishing. I also see it says hancock forest managment. Is there anything public to hunt over there?

I'm new to predator hunting, and I'm not having any luck on this side of the mountains.

Nope, nothing public.  Requires a Hancock permit and key to access.  Only 1200 full year permits for sale in 2014.
