I figured you guys would jump all over me for saying the woman should be armed before the man is - what gives?    :chuckle:

Dang, how did I miss that one?  :dunno:

While I agree that the woman should be armed, I cant get the wife to carry. Sure, she has her pepper spray, but wants nothing to do with carrying a handgun. She likes to shoot them though.

I did read somewhere that there is something like 170,000 CPL holding women in this state.

I think you're close then kenzmad,  to getting her carrying that is. Maybe talk to her more and get her out more often.

The reason I'd like to see more women armed is because they're largely ignored in a confrontation between two men. The bad guy will always go to the man first, after all you're the biggest threat right?  WRONG!

The woman can step back and access the situation, she has time on her side.  The man (you) can back off with hands in the air utilizing some verbal judo, all the while pulling the bad guy backwards with you, the woman swings around to a "tactical L" 90 degrees off center.

While the bad guy is ignoring her totally and playing bad azz with her husband......she can pull out the gun unnoticed and if the situation warrants she has a perfect shot to the bad guys earhole.   Also both lungs are lined up if she puts a few under his armpit taking out the heart and lungs.

I just don't see a lot of situations where the threat is directly aimed at you and you being able to keep 21 feet of distance - it just isn't gonna go down that way - he's gonna be right up in your grill with a gun aimed at your teeth before you even have a chance to shat yourself. If you got a gun in your face are you going to drop your hands and try to pull out your own gun?  Let your woman do that, you keep him distracted as you play the good little victim.

Just something to ponder.

Ya, but then i would have deal with her forever telling me " how SHEsaved our lives"  :chuckle: Thats a pretty good example though. Definitely something to throw out to her. My deal with the 21' is not to let anyone be that close to me. I know this cant be accomplished at all times but i do go out of my way to make sure I have space.
Simply being aware of what is going on around you helps a lot.  Eyes up, not looking a phone while walking through a parking lot. One thing I have the wife do when parking her car is to tilt the seat forward against the steering wheel when exiting the car. With the back windows factory tint, you cant see in from the outside very well. If the seat is pulled back, she is to assume someone either is in the car or had been in the car.
I sit my self at a restaurant on the end of the booth facing the front entrance. As said, don't be caught off guard. Pay attention to whats going on around you.
I thought this topic was going to go sideways in the beginning but it hasn't. Some good info being exchanged. Maybe we should start our own :chuckle:

Back to the OP, I would highly consider the new Glock 30'S' it's a slim version of the Glock 30 which is their .45 caliber, it's basically a Glock 30 with a 36 slide.... either way it's a slim, sub-compact .45 with 10+1 round capacity!! I will be picking one up next month!

Its as slim as a double stack 45 can be. I got rid of my 30 for my kimber. Much slimmer amd lighter even with ct laser grips.

Time to break out the popcorn-

The gun you carry is more important than the one you left at home- but practice, practice practice with whatever it is you decide on.

Have a good selection to choose from- Walther PPS 40 S&W is my latest carry..wife prefers her Shield in 9mm.
For what its worth- bought the PPS as a option to the Shield for others to try out- most prefer the Shield- some ladies like the Sig 232. None opt for a revolver in any flavor once they shoot the Shield. Next run gun will be a Walther PPQ with the paddle release (non M2)..

Good thread/advise with a no nonsense approach-

 Information below is from-  http://www.getoffthex.com/topic/guns-and-gear-i-recommend

This is what I recommend. Is there other good gear than this? Yes, of course. This is not about me "liking" or "disliking" something. This isn't the 5th grade. This is the stuff I have found to be THE BEST the last 16 years training 18,000 people that have fired 18,000,000 rounds. If you are looking for bargains this isn't your list.

For you folks that are taking it personal that your gear isn't on my list no Warrior would EVER invest his ego in his gear. Never. Some of you are acting very childish. Make your OWN list! Make a list of trainers and leave me off of it.

I can back up every single thing I say from my years conducting training as well as my own personal tactical experience. Am I ever wrong? YES. Keep in mind how my resume stacks up against yours before you start bashing. You are allowed your opinions and I am allowed mine.

No order of preference unless individually noted.

Handgun
9mm Glock specifically the 19 (17 if you have BIG hands)
Back-Up Glock 26 (preferred) or S&W M&P 340
S&W M&P in 9mm
