Wise food company meals?
« on: December 22, 2013, 05:17:17 PM »
Saw a commercial for these guys while watching that prepper show, got a free sample and doesn't look to bad,  there smart they sent me cheeseburger Mac. Prices don't look to bad either, 40 bucks for 14 servings.

Anyone try these?

How was the taste? Mt house and Backpacker's Pantry are not too bad and are decently priced. I started making my own dehydrated meals which I can get 28 servings for $20.00 +/- depending on the meal.

I haven't found another brand that consistently re-hydrates as well as MH.  Not exactly appetizing to me to have crunchy bits mixed into my dinner.  I have about 10 varieties of MH I rotate now and all are reliable and plenty tasty after a 10+ mile day hiking around.

Curious to see what you think of this stuff!  I tried another brand from Sierra Trading Post that I bought for about $3/meal but it was awful and poor texture/rehydration.

Please post some recipes! My wife is an amazing cook but hasn't figured out how to do the dehdrated meals. Any help you could provide would be amazing!

Thanks!

There's a good article comparing the major brands of backpacking meals in the latest Extreme Elk magazine   Wise stacked up pretty well and lower in sodium.

MH, Wise, Backpackers Pantry in that order IMO.  With one exception that is Backpackers Pantry Phad Thai that is my second favorite meal out of all I have had thus far.
