Up until this year I never purchased a new rifle,My first rifle 27 years ago was a Savage from 1966,a garage sale special my grandpa bought and then sold to me for 300 bucks,We took it out and shot his handloads out of it,covered 3 shots with a dime,20 years ago I bought a winchester model 70 from 1971 in .243 from a guy here locally, who had bought it used and hacked the stock off to fit his 4 foot 8 wife,it has a medium weight barrel and at 8 pounds was to heavy for her to pack,it also shoots a 1/2 inch group.Last year I bought a Ruger M77 from a board member here,it was his grandfathers gun and he told me he could only get a 3 inch group out of it at 100 with handloads,I cleaned the bejeezuz out of it,a whole lot of copper goin on,removed it from the stock, put it back together being ever so mindful of screw tension, threw a scope on it,bought 2 boxes of Remmy corelokt 130's and got a ragged hole,I also bought a used Savage predator gun from Huntboy on here and it's a hole making machine.I guess the jist of it is I bought 3 rifles that were over 20 years old that there was not a dang thing wrong with. The only brand new rifle I ever bought was this year and it shoots not one bit better than the others,.204 ruger Savage Predator hunter.
