Elk?
« on: December 31, 2013, 05:00:54 PM »
My cousin almost hit this on 101 near Lake Crescent.   I've never seen any elk that looks like this though.   Any ideas what this actually is?

What time of year was it? That does not look like an elk, it looks like it has a white patch (sort of) like a deer.  That color is very odd?

Picture was taken yesterday. 12-30-13.  He said it was bigger than a deer but not as large as a full   grown elk. Antlers look like elk but size and color are off.

That is odd, I will be watching to see if someone knows.  It looks like an exotic deer to me, probably shouldn't be in the wild??

So here's a question, if it is an exotic, can it be legally harvested anytime?  I don't believe the wdfw would want that running around, and I thought species not of this area were open game as far as harvesting goes?

The observer should report this to the WDFW.  Based on the picture this may be illegal.

This is south of Forks on private ground, closer to Quinault than Lake Crescent. The guy has a couple of these deer.

Couldn't this be a native deer with a recessive gene? I've seen completely black deer and there are piebalds.  :dunno:
