The HSUS game plan in CA
« on: January 05, 2014, 10:48:17 AM »
Copied this off Trapperman,

Jennifer Fearing, the HSUS state director, was appointed to the Ca Fish and Game Wildlife Resources Committee last year and heads up the group's Predator Subcommittee. Fearing, who walks the governors dog, pressured the Commission to reexamine the statewide regulations on predators and non-game animals. Here are summaries of that subcommittee's recommendations.
End all bobcat hunting and trapping in Ca
End all hunting and trapping for all species if they are taken for commercial gain
End the use of dogs for all hunting of mammals BIRD HUNTERS BEWARE
End all hunting competitions, whether they are for financial gain or not
The Humane Society's stated agenda is to end all hunting and fishing in the United States and say they will do it species by species, season by season. All of the recommendations are right out of there play book, and none of the moves can be justified based on science, only on emotion. Unless there is active opposition by the sporting community, agricultural-ranching interests and the DFW, there is a good chance politics will drive these recommendations right on through.
The DFW Director, Chuck Bonham, has proven to be a good puppet for the governor, and will likely prevent DFW scientists from weighing in on these issues.
Scientists won't tell you that the bobcat population is thriving in Ca, even with the hunting and trapping programs, although hunting and trapping are at historical low. During the 2012-13 season, 12,400 bobcat tags were sold, and only 324 bobcats were taken by hunters. Another 1,200 bobcats were taken by licensed trappers using cage traps. This is well below the 14,000 bobcat annual harvest quota set by the DFW and USFWS scientists.
The science doesn't suggest either a bobcat hunting or trapping ban is necessary, so why ban it? It's because the HSUS and it's ilk don't like people killing animals at all, ever. They don't have to like what I do, but if I am doing it legally they can't tell what to do.
The next meeting for the subcommittee to present there recommendations will be Jan 15,2014 12:30-4:00pm at
Van Nuys State office Building Auditorium
6150 Van Nuys Blvd
Van Nuys, Ca
You can read the agenda and recommendations at DFW website www.fgc.ca.gov
You can also contact the So Ca NRA Rep, Dave Halbrook, at nraamc@gmail.com
If at all possible please try to attend the meeting, not asking you to speak if you don't want to, just so we can show some force. I believe if they get this through we are done for ever.
The DFW meets every other month, and the subcommittee meets the months DFW doesn't, one month in LA the next time in Oakland. I doubt there are many hunters or trappers in the Oakland area, so this might be our best shot at getting it beaten.

Thanks for posting this Bruce.  Hunters and trappers should be able to challenge and undermine the legitimacy of an HSUS State Director on a Fish and Game Wildlife Resources Committee as a conflict of interest.  It’s worse than putting a member of the Westboro Baptist Church on a Veterans’ Funeral Planning Board.  We need to make sure we take action here in WA to prevent HSUS getting on any State Wildlife Committees of any kind. Having a Conservation Northwest member on our e Game Commission is bad enough already. Political analysts say, "As California goes, so goes the Country." So we all must support the fights on wildlife issues in California too.

WDFW already includes HSUS on committees. I served on The Wildlife Conflict Committee. HSUS was on it too. Thank God they were just one member and were out numbered. DOW spends a lot of time at the Olympia office too.
The problem in CA is they put them in charge. Thank you Governor Moonbeam.
