Try precooking your bacon in the microwave between layers of paper towel.  This will reduce the amount of fat dripping off in the grill.  It also helps the bacon be done without overcooking the meat inside.

I have a similar recipe i use. I take X flavor brandy and the same jelly Heat and whip together for the marinade, however i take the bacon wrapped duck and let it set in the marinade, turning in 1-3 times in the 24 hrs of soak. I usually cook over tin foil on the grill or bake in the oven in a deep pan with the rest of marinade. I will add some heat to it next time. I usually forget to grab some jalapenos.
