Westport jetty

Does anyone know the best time to target lingcod off the Westport (south) jetty? I haven't used my surf rod in awhile and I think its about time I do. Any info would be great. Thank you in advance

I don't think ling season opens til March :dunno: but it's open for sea bass I guess and other bottom fish.

 :yeah:

Mid March in area 2, cant remember the date off hand. Just watch for big waves or you might be lingcod bait.

Understood. Yes, spring time is when ling is open. I was more curious about a specific period of time. Like early, mid, late season? But thank you for your responses. I appreciate them.

Early season before it gets fished out. Generally as the summer goes on the lings get hard to come by. Also late summer is good, generally first part of Oct since less people are fishing.

Look for weather coming from the East or South and go out past the green can.   I need to get the kids out there.

Yep.
And plan on  a rough day of fishing if you plan on  going during a clam tide. It can be done, but the tide swing is huge.

I think I will stick to surf perch during clamming. I will fish the jetty on "off" days instead.

Unless you have a boat, I would use the fog horn as a starting point. June has always been a good time to start for me. Of course I have a boat and target Cabazon also.

Cabs. are among the best tasting UGLIES on the water      I've been know to target both lings and cabazon before I go for seabass.

I would pass limits of seabass all day long for a chance at a cabazon or ling.

A-Men!  I have a sweet cabezon spot off of Tatoosh at Neah Bay!  I also like true cod.  We use to catch a bunch of them at Neah Bay and Sekiu.  Had the last of my ling cod last night for dinner.  Mmmmmmmmm...  Gotta go get some more this year!  Got a cousin that lives in PA that wants me to come up an go halibut and ling fishing with him..  Going to have to take him up on it this year.

To bad you are way over there on the dry side. Another trip with you and Joe would be great! If ya could just get Woodman to not have so many issues just getting to Neah Bay

That trip was one to remember. Had plenty of fun when we got there, but I think we invented a new rig on the way up. I think it was called a boaterhome when the boat crashed right through the back of my motorhome and made a new rear window.

That spot by the fog horn that Tony said is a good spot for ling. The best times to fish from the jetty is when there are no minus tides and be careful those rocks can be slippery.
