Hawkeye Magnum Hunter rage day
« on: January 26, 2014, 08:56:40 PM »
From the beginning:

http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,145438.msg1927112.html#msg1927112

Since that post:

Had a trigger job done by a guy in that smiths from his home (1 Man Machine). He was able to clean and lighten it up quite a bit. He says it was pulling just under 4lbs when I picked it up.

Added a comb raiser made by Beartooth, and a Quake Claw Couture sling.

The range experience:

Not actually a range, but an old clear cut in the Capitol Forest. 1st off the trigger. The weight was spot on, but still too creepy for my liking. Gonna check back with 1 Man Machine  to see if we can work that a bit further. If not I'll be looking into aftermarket triggers... The comb raiser got the job done, but even on the grippy Houge stock, the foam pad was slightly shifty. I think I will be replacing it with a Triad Tactical pad. The pads for those velcro on. My Vortex scope was a true performer!! Very crisp, clear, and bright!! The MOA adjustments seemed to be spot on. As for the rifle's performance;  sub MOA tack driver!! I was able to cover more than one 2-3 shot group with a singe black sticker. between the weight of the gun, Houge stock/recoil pad, and Ruger break, I'd say the felt recoil is hardly more than my son's ATR100 243. Most comfortable magnum rifle I've ever fired and then some! I did have to find an old piece of plywood laying around to put under the break. Otherwise I'd get blasted with dirt and rocks every shot. Overall I don't think I could be happier outside of the trigger. I'll find a solution for that in the near future, but I think the group size proves that new trigger or not, she's more than ready for any game animal North America can throw our way!!

BTW, That's two shots between the 7 and 8 inch mark. These were all at 100 yards via my rangfinder.

Rage day?
Careful with the rage....especially when armed.
 :)

What's that rifle weigh?
:fire.:

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

Haha, good catch! I haven't put her on a scale. I'm guessing 12-13 with the bipod. I'll be taking that off when I hunt though. Heavy any way you stack it though. I'll try to get a weight today
