My Short Season
« on: January 28, 2014, 08:22:35 PM »
This is a few days after season, but I thought I would share my story and pics none the less.  I was able to get in just 3 hunts at the end of the season.  Unfortunately between elk season, my father having health challenges in Oregon and me having to be there to help him recover , and then getting the flu topped of with pneumonia once I was back, I was only able to get in just a few hunts.

Of course when I can finally hunt the mornings are fogged in then they clear out to blue bird days.  Not exactly normal January duck hunting weather.  There were birds on the big water, but getting them to leave the birds that were rafted up and come to my decoys was the tough part.  Needless to say I didn't hammer the birds too hard.  Best part of the hunts were being out there with my pups anyway.  The young one even went under water after the pintail when it dove.  She came up with the bird.  That right there was worth getting up and tromping out through the salt marsh in the dark to set up...

Enjoys the pic's from my abbreviated season.

Glad to hear you got to feeling better before the season ended and hope all is well with you dad too. Short season is better than no season.   My dogs remind me every morning I don't get out as much as I would like.  ;)

Thanks for the thoughts about my dad.  He's 86, he got hit with a heart attack, kidney failure, and pneumonia at about the same time.  His heart rate at one point was as high as 234.  We were close to losing him.  He got well enough eventually that I could feel OK to come home.  Trusting that he was well enough to take care of himself.   He is at about 80% of where he was before this episode.

While I was there his well system failed so it was good I was there.  I replaced the whole system so now he has a new system.  We've previously tried to get him to move into town from the ranch, but he refuses.  I guess after you've lived in one place for 50+ years you figure that's just where your gonna stay...

None of us are getting any younger. Glad you could be there when you were needed, and still got to get out. May God bless you and your family. Thanks for sharing.

Hey, you got in more hunts than I did.
