Hi point pistols

I've been reading lots of store reviews on the gun.
I've seen pros being reliable, cheap in price, good sights, American made, awesome warrantee
Cons heavy, bulky, and big grips,
Well I have big hands so no worry there
ThIs would be a range gun for me
I don't care if it's big for a plinking gun
Anyone have one
What is your thoughts

Yeah the are cheap and they do jam alot.  I have a couple of them.

Buy something decent, you can buy a tokarev for about the same amount of $$$ and they are 1000x the gun. The list of good guns to buy goes on from there but if you are looking for something to enjoy shooting with, don't get a hi-point. They are an awesome halibut gun, if it jams you can probably beat the fish to death with it and if you drop it over the side you won't cry over it!

I have a surplus tok' in 7.62x25mm and it has been my favorite range gun for a long time, sadly I am almost out of surplus ammo for it! It's a superbly accurate pistol without considering the fact that I have been shooting ammo made in the 50's, with new ammo it is even more impressive. I would like to get a new one in 9mm.

Tried oiling it well and/or polishing the internals?

Mine only  jammed when I loaded the clip completly full and when it was  shot limp wristed

I have both a 9 and 45 for several years now. Had all the same questions. Guns have fired thousands of rounds, neither have jamming issues. Ugly for sure...but they actually shoot lights out. People who have never shot or owned them will say its junk, etc, because....they never shot one. I don't think you will be disappointed based on why you want it.

I had a .40 and it jammed 1/5 times. Sold it and bought my glock. Haven't missed it since.

I have a 9mm. Is a truck/plinking gun. It is knocked around and basically just abused, rarely cleaned, hardly oiled. Goes bang every single time I pull the trigger and is quite accurate. Especially if you consider that the guy shooting usually can't hit a bull in the butt with a scoop shovel when it comes to pistol shooting.

I bought one in 9mm back in '03 to completely use and abuse while backpacking, hiking, and hunting across NM. Ugly as sin and just as heavy as it was ugly, but is was as reliable!! Saved my but from a pitbull that was dumped in the Pecos Wilderness outside of Roswell. I'm guessing it was a fighting dog that lost, because he was pretty chewed up. After a few years I started carrying my S&W 686 and sold the High Point for what I paid for it. No regrets buying or selling that cheap little brick.

It seems like a 50/50 gamble. A friend had a 9mm and I really wanted to like it so I could talk myself into getting one (maybe two), but I didn't like it at all. Did have a few FTF and a stove pipe or two. On the plus, it did seem accurate.

Hi point had issues. In an attempt to convince folks that they had fixed their issues (function issues, not looks issues) they added a warranty- it is guaranteed to function. not to be pretty, or comfortable in the hand or comfortable to carry.. if you can afford something better- get something better, if you cant, well it does meet the first rule of a gunfight.. (have a gun)

I had one for a few years, it was my beginners pistol when I turned 21. Never had a problem with it jamming and just sprayed it down with oil and never really cleaned it.

Also the factory is a town over from my wife's home town and are known for a great warranty if ever needed. I plan on taking a tour next time we go to visit family.

That being said, I sold it for the same price I bought it 3 years later and bought a glock. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of their carbines though

I wouldn't even use one for a paperweight. Their junk I would find an old Smith and Wesson sigma before I would waste $150.

It seems that people have a true hatred for Hi-Point.

I have .45 pistol and man is that thing a brick. Almost no recoil, because the shock is absorbed by the slide. In fact, if you invert my .45, have the barrel pointed up, and you jerk the pistol downwards, the weight of the slide will actually chamber a round.

I have never had a problem with jamming and to be frank I have always been of the opinion that if you shoot your pistol enough, you will learn how it shoots. Each firearm is different. My Hi-Point is pretty damn accurate in my hands but probably not someone else's.

I have it as a truck gun. It isn't pretty, it isn't easy to carry and you certainly aren't going to conceal carry it. But (mine at least) goes bang every time I pull the trigger and the bullet goes where I aim it (not always where I want it). They are fun, cheap and in my very understated and often misguided opinion, reliable for the range and fun times. All that being said, it isn't the one I use for self defense.

Found to be dependable, althou ugly..good under the seat- knock about gun. Sinks to the bottom of yhe lake? Buy another! Had one guy buy over a dozen and handed them out for Christmas presents one year!

I have never had a problem with mine.  It's a truck gun, abused, rarely maintained, etc...  Shoots every time for me..

Not sure if there's any truth to it but I heard a story from a guy about his buddy riding around on a fourwheeler in Arizona for a whole day in 90+ degree heat and his Hi-Point was in a holster on the front of the quad and it was warped from the heat. He swears it actually deformed the gun!
