Exhaust opinion
« on: February 05, 2014, 03:47:48 PM »
I just got an 06 gmc sierra, I'm planning on going in next week to get a new muffler for a throatier sound, it's a toss up between dynomax and Flowmaster...What do you run? If you have experience with these two options which do you like more? Any opinions would be helpful, thanks in advance!

Flowmaster all the way! Get 50 series though or they will probably be too loud for you. The dynomax is junk imo, you could park your truck on top of the flowmaster without hurting it but would crush the dynomax like a pop can, long term durability and the flowmaster wins every time. Flowpro is junk too, a little tougher than dynomax but still garbage. My truck had one on it when I got it and it's internals rusted out completely, it developed a loud droning sound and when I picked it up to shake after it got cut off it sounded like it had about 10 lbs of rust in it.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

 :yeah:

I've never considered it possible there could be a toss-up between Dynomax and Flomaster.  :dunno:

I haven't heard too many negatives about dynomax until now haha, sounds like flowmaster it is. I was thinking 40 series but sounds like 50's is the way to go..I dont mind loudness though, I did just come from a 5.9 cummins with a loud exhaust and loved it! But regardless thanks for the opinions!

I get lots of comments on my Flowmasters (all positive) very throaty. Also makes many young guys pull up along side and want to see if it go.

I have dual 40's on my hotrod, it sounds like it belongs on a track, I have a 50 on my tacoma and it can be heard for a few blocks.  :chuckle:

I had 3" 40's on a high-compression 427 bbc.  Loved it.  Neighbors didn't. ..

I too have dual 40's on my 72 blazer w/400ci small-block.  They are pretty loud.  I'm thinking about swapping out for 50 series.

Put an AFE air filter in the stock housing and call it good, most of the aftermarket stuff just makes more noise and makes it easier for water to get in.

Are you just swapping out the stock muffler for a louder one? If so I'd go with a 40 if you want throaty. I have a 40 on my f150 and it's not really that loud. At idle you can barely tell its not the stock muffler. Sounds good when you hit 1700+ Rpms though. With all that said I much prefer the sound quality of magnaflows over flowmasters.

Later in life, you will look back at decisions like this and just shake your head.....what was I doing...?

Put a nice quiet stock muffler on it like designed and make your neighbors happy... :chuckle:
