I want to say I have a 70 series Flowmaster on my '02 Silverado. It's been there 5-6 years and I can't remember for sure what it is. It's not too loud. I had a Corsa cat back on it from GM Performance parts and it was soooo loud and there was a lot of drone.

I think their product does last longer than most others from what Ive read on gm forums..guess its just a matter of which to go with..i will probably start with a 40's and then go from there since the rest of the exhaust will be stock I forsure want a good throaty sound

If all you're concerned with is the sound, look on YouTube for some video. You'll be able to hear what they sound like.

I put a 16 inch flo pro on my Silverado when brand new and I now have 88k on it and it is still going strong... sounds same now as day one. Sounds like a truck... not overly loud or annoying but a bit throaty.

I think a 40 will sound decent on that truck. Magnaflows from what ive seen are generally a little bit more mellow, but have a much more natural sound in the higher rpms whereas the flowmasters seem to just become a loud drone. My next one will be a 14" magnaflow.

When I had diesels it was 4in straight pipe and that was the only way to go. A year ago I got a f150 and decided to keep it quiet and stock, best decision of my life :chuckle: my buddy drew an eastside archery bull tag last year and it sure was nice to pull up to a spot on the road, bugle out the window and get a response! Never do that with a loud truck! Haha anyways ive alwayd liked the sound of the flowmaster 49.

Here's a dumb question about exhaust sound.
Does sub zero temps make an exhaust sound louder? Mine seems to the last couple of days??????

Coach I'm not sure, I can look around and see. If not My buddy did do a flowmaster on his truck and it doesn't sound too loud. It's Probably what I will go with I cant remember what series he has though Ill have to double check. I think the duramax would be too big, I'm only running a 5.3L vs a 6.0 I'm not sure of the measurement difference though. Something to consider.

If your looking to be a little different check out Borla's stuff. Good quality stuff without the run of the mill flowmaster sound. Don't get me wrong I love flowmasters and the way they sound. I've had Flowmasters on quite a few different vehicles but when I did the exhaust on my 69 Camaro I bought Borlas and constantly had people asking what exhaust I was using. I second checking out Youtube for sound clips to help with your decision. I also second the fact you can park a semi on a flowmaster and it won't flinch. I had a set that have been used on 4 different rigs from cars to 4x4 trucks and they have been sitting outside in the rain for over 5 years now with no rust I'll use them again someday.

My hunting partner put 40 series on his suburban.  Sounds great.  Not too loud in the cab, but once we started pulling the travel trailer to Elk camp a couple years ago he regretted it.  He had the exhaust piped out the back and man was it loud while towing.  We figure the sound was bouncing off the trailer and echoing towards the truck.  Especially over the pass where he gets on it for miles at a time.

We take my rig hunting now.  :chuckle:

Another vote for Flow master. I have put them on every rig I have owned. Always went with the 40 series on had 2 rigs that it was obnoxiously loud. One was a 78 Chevy short/wide bed with a built 502 running 2 1/2 " headers into 3" duals dumped over the axle. Couldn't have a conversation above 20 mph ( man I miss that truck) the other was a Honda crx, ya it was bad  :chuckle:
