fresh snow tonight and no work tomorrow

Headed out to the Desert unit trying my hand at predators.  Any advice?  Howl calls? How about cutting tracks, would you attempt to follow them?

I don't get to do this too often (predator hunting), your advice is greatly appreciated.

God bless.

I would never try and follow yote tracks... cat tracks are a different story. With that said I would drive until I find tracks and follow them off the rd until your vehicle is out of site and then set up a caller. Good luck! I always like to start with bunny calls  ;)
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Im very jealous!  I just told my wife and she said yeah he is probably homeless.   Sorry im sure your not.  I would love to be out there.  I'll try sat.  The snow will be gone though.  Good luck.  Call 30 seconds on low volume and wait a good two minutes, and continue and get louder each time you start another rabbit sound.

Thanks guys.  I have everyother Friday off, so I try to make the most of it while the wife is at work and the kiddo is in school.  Its my "free" day.  I'll let you guys know how I do, my initial plan is stay around the ducks and geese that are still here.  Natural food source I guess.  There's some other areas around Othello I'd like to try out but I'd rather stick closer to home.  Heaven knows we have plenty of yotes around Moses.  I've been told we have a good population of bobcat, but thats just a rumor.

God bless.  Have fun at work tomorrow.  :IBCOOL:

Its official the ML school district is a bunch of sissies.   :bash:
School is closed so no hard core hunting.  On the bright side it'll be a daddy daughter road hunting day once breakfast is over.

This was tge extent of my hunt. This guy should stay put till he sheds! Made a few stands and came up empty. Had bobcat tracks in my tracks by the truck on the way out.

Nice elk.  Thats crazy the bobcat followed your tracks!

We saw one yote. But was not able to put the scope on him.  Fun morning though.  We only saw coyote tracks in the fresh powder.  It was great seeing where they were going, hunting, and even sleeping.  Wasn't a ton of tracks; must not be that many where we were driving or they were just avoiding the roads.

So we had to change plans on friday but tonight we're getting more snow plus wind.  And I get to hunt in the morning!  Plan to head out and test my gear, tenacity and skill.  God willing he'll provide an opportunity.  After they are his plans after all.

God bless everyone, I'll post up my results tomorrow.

Good luck. This morning driving up the rd first thing there was a bobcat just sitting on a little side road in the sage we jumped out to shoot him and were just about to shoot and he took off. He sat there for a good minute watching us get out and loaded.  :bash: also saw a sweet 8x8 with the bull I posted the pic of yesterday.

There was maybe 150 cows hanging out around oak creek yesterday and still no people around and visitor center closed. Cowiche had a ton of elk and we watched them feed them.

Well it was a great day.  I didn't see any coyotes but many of them responded to my howl calls.  I just couldn't get any to come in.  My gear held up great.  I was comfortable warm and dry.  The desert was beautifully calm too.  Just a peaceful day.
