2014 Idaho Big Game Seasons

Idaho 2014 Big Game season proposals by region in the link above.  Comments are due March 9.

I particularly liked the Clearwater region shifting season dates in unit 18 to try and reduce crowding.  I think more regions/hunts need to do this.  It sucks to draw a decent buck or bull tag and also have to compete with 500 cow tag holders, 200 deer tag holders, a general white-tail season etc.  Minimizing overlap of hunt dates is a great way to reduce hunter numbers and increase quality of the hunt IMO...if you agree, let them know.

Anyways, make sure to send in your comments...otherwise no complaining allowed  :chuckle: :chuckle:

I wrote IDFG about this issue after my hunt there in Nov...they understood the frusturation. I talked to many bull tag holders that were furious over this hunt...The worst hunt I have ever done in 25 years. The moving of the 120 mule deer tags is not going to help at all! I didnt even run into a single guy in 11 days that was mule deer hunting. Alot of the mule deer guys are hunting where there are not any elk..I have been down last 2 years on the mule deer hunt and never see elk hunters, hunting different terrrain and spots for them. I commented on this again what needs to happen is close whitetail deer down till after the elk hunt that will help alot more than the mule deer hunters.
They need to find a better way to harvest more cows, thats the whole issue with this hunt as its exceded carrying capacity and they are in a bind on how to get more cows killed. They cant stagger the hunt, because one user group will be screwed. They cant really open a late cow hunt due to snow in the high country and private down low. I asked why they cant increase the archery tags or make a cow only archery hunt. The bio told me they want this hunt to be a quality bull hunt in the future, but the cow harvest must increase.

The panhandle needs something done about the management! there is 0 management anywhere in the panhandle for elk or deer! Its horrendous the age structure of the elk and deer. We ran 5 cams for 3 months in a mountain area I cannot honestly say there was 1 buck 4yrs or older!! we got 1 mature bull on cam.  The whitetails in N ID is getting pathetic...I read some posts on fb on the N ID board and they are getting fed up with the management. Sad state of affairs
