AR Build ? Free floating rail suggestions
« on: February 23, 2014, 07:59:51 PM »
Ok so I have decided on a 15" rail and a 18" barrel.

Any suggestions on rails. Right now I'm looking at the seeking precsion and rainier force  rail?

Thanks in advance

What is the purpose of the rail?

The Fortis rail is very light and uses the factory barrel nut.

The MidWest Industries Key-Mod is a great rail for the price. It also requires just a standard barrel nut.

K-Series.

Gen2-SS

For quality, finish and function. I like the Noveske NSR.

Just to clarify, If you have An AR with a standard gas-impingement system, any free-float tube will work.  For light weight, I'd be looking at the PRI Carbon-fiber free floating tubes...  :twocents:

Thanks, I really like the seekins and fortis rails.  I plan on mounting a grip pod or bi pod to it, probably not any lights or any of that crap. Plan on killing coyotes with it, not zombies

Get a gen 2 Midwest rail. They are on sale on ebay threw a lot of vendors. I just picked one up for one of the current projects. Super light/looks great/ won't break the bank.

I really like Midwest/troy/seekins

Found you a even better deal on one. Joe bob is the best online dealer I have ever dealt with I place orders with them a lot.

185.00 for the 15" plus free shipping and since it is over 100.00 order you get to add a free t shirt to your order.

just get the pivoting Harris Bipod...MUCHO better than the tacticool grip pod. Grop Pod is not a good option, it is too tall, and will not allow for any cant adjustments
If you want a front grip, just fold down one of the Harris bipod legs. It works!!! also the harris works really well for a standoff when propping up against a fence post or a wall...or almost anything

One word of advice, learned the hard way--If you get a bipod, get the longest one available.  If you plan on doing a lot of bench shooting, get the shortest one.  DO NOT get the medium height one.  It's too high for bench shooting, and too low for hunting--IT'S WORTHLESS!  :twocents:

Is Midwest and seekins the same company? I really like that rail but wish I could get my hands on it first. How does it compare to the seekins, I've held that one

No 2 different companies. The Midwest is 1.5" around and only 10.9oz with the barrel nut in the 15" .

The seekins v2  is 12 oz and a little thicker around. Plus has at 3 6 and 9. I am not a rail guy myself

The key-Mods are the way to go. Slim & light! You don't have to deal with all the unnecessary rails and you add rails only where you need them.

Excellent advice!  I have full quad rail handguards on my ARs, and even with ladder covers where my hand goes, those Picatinny Rails are sharp!

Agree with the key mod. I can't stand cheese greater on my rifles.

I just saw the new mono megalithic system and about fainted DADDY LIKES!

Was going to order a mkm for the long range ar10 but saw that system last night. I might have to smash my piggy bank for that setup

One warning--if you are looking for light weight, don't get the cast aluminum handguards with the front rails, like the YHM and RRA types.  They are not light!  The slim ones that you can add rails to are better!

I prefer the slim profile, lightweight handguard, like the Troy VTAC on my Black Mountain/High Mountain .223. Simple install and strong!
