Hunting with an old timer

Was taken back a few years  but this past season was able to get out with one of my few remaining old Friends  and was able to spend a week in the woods with him  . boy the fun times we talked about and shared together once again.   seemed like only yesterday we first got together and spent time in the woods.  he kept reminding me of all his ailments and reasons why  he couldn't get out   so with a good bit of coaxing  got the old timer out once again .Managed to get him hooked up on a deer and by golly he got him with his first shot a nice 2 by 3  then shortly the after he was razzing me about getting my buck and how he was tagged out  well i finely  made it happen  he was just a rolling and giving me such a darn time  loved every second of it too. I know going many of us miss will him when he's in the big camp in the sky!  Had a blast only wish it could have gone on longer,and his health allowed Him to do more . The fond memories , his smiles along with his great stories will linger on forever

 A lot of us are 'playing the back nine' now but I hope to have at least 20 more years of hunting in me. Putting off neck surgery til after hunting season. This had to come up after drawing 2 quality hunts that I've waited 12 years to get! Life sure screws up my hunting.

Since I am in the class of older folks... that is/was an awesome thing that you have done... Creating more memories and helping a friend 'catch some more dreams'   AWESOME

good job on sharing those memories and creating more, I cherish the time I get with any elder long as they don't "box my ears"

  yep I do  understand being part of the older crowd . I just hope that as I do get older      I have good friends that would still like to go out with me when I reach my friends age  .  to be honest with you all  I figure as long as you can sit up  and shoot a gun then its up to the younger folks who we most likely taught    to shoot and hunt  to once in awhile  give back some of what they have learned   but than that's just the way I was taught to respect my elders.   NOW I  R ONE

 I am 72 and not old just aged.  can still walk 10 plus miles in a day.  cant see too well and hear worth a sheet but can have a good time.  and thanks for listening to me.  mike w

A good friend came to my camp for four days this deer season.. We hunt off and on when his job lets him. We were reminiscing over a bottle of 40yr old Jack Daniels he brought with him to share, that we've hunted off and on for some 25+ years in several areas of this state. Always looking for that new 'spot'. I've helped him pack out deer, he's helped me. We met in the Navy and the rest is history. We're only in our fifties. We're not young and spry... Not too old to put on a few miles at 4:am.. (just a few Tom)  ....  Old enough to be patient... and we never worry about each other if one doesn't come back to camp at dinner time. We could probably rattle off what's in each other's day pack.
 
I love hunting with my boys. There's nothing like that...  But I hope when I'm an old timer, Tom's there with me/us just like old times.

   always good to hear about some of the things others  do as well ! good on ya .just  enjoy the times  you get to spend no matter what they are like  just being with good  friends in the woods has always been more  the enough for me  anthing else is a plus  but then its more like work hahaha

   just got the news this afternoon  lost my good friend  to cancer today .I know he fought it long and hard  but it just finely got the better of him .Sure going to miss smiling face  around the camp fires  his stories and just Him  .was a good man  Now only thing left  are the fond memories  of the great times we shared the game we got and the places we seen together, I will Miss his counsel  Greatly !

Oneshot, so glad you were able to get out with him while he was still on this side.  If there is one thing as valuable as taking a new hunter out to the field, it is taking a venerable old-timer!  Major props to you.
