Looking to buy a springfield XD .45 in Spokane area
« on: March 13, 2014, 09:09:00 AM »
I am looking to pick up a springfield .45 in the spokane area.  Any suggestions on where the best buy is?  Also, thoughts on .45 vs. 10mm or .40?  I pack a .44 mag, but my wife wants a little semi-auto bear gun for huckleberry picking :)

I think the 10mm would be a great bear gun.

White elephand usually has decent prices. I have also bought a few guns from northwest pawn collectors arms on pines amd they are great guys to work with. I dont know if either have what you want in stock. Im sure you have already thought about it but Just make sure that your wife is comfortable with whatever you get. No sense in having your wife scared of a defense weapon. That said I think the 40, 10mm,or 45 would all work. I pack a kimber ultra carry in 45 and absolutely love it!

Thanks for the feedback guys.  She hates shooting my .44 mag, and has shot my buddies .45 well.  That is my reason for caliber reduction for her.  better  a light hitter with something she can shoot than a cannon that she is scared of.

10mm is what I carry. My 29sf has quite a wallop for a women to shoot. It's a handful for little hands.

If I would go 10mm which gun would you guys reccomend for a budget around 500-600?  How much more will I pay for ammo? There is obviously the Glock, but have never liked it as much as the XD.

Don't take this wrong but I am getting confused by the way you write.

Do you want this for you or does the wife want one for her?

If it is for her, I would take her to a range where she can shoot different ones and then let her pick what she is comfy with.

If it is for you, I would suggest the same thing.

Either way, the best thing to do is not pick something for her just because you like it. She has to be comfortable shooting it. Let her decide.  :twocents:

Good points.  The fact I never liked the Glock is that the grips were bigger and I have medium size hands, since her hands are smaller than mine I figured that would hold true.  I am just doing research hoping to narrow a list for her to try.

I would get a sub-compact or a single stack(s) in 40 or 9.  I have a 9 in both cuz the ammo is cheaper.   a 45 is a bigger gun but lots of guys like a 45.  I went to a 9 cuz it  of less recoil and cheaper ammo.  mike w

Get the glock 20 SF. Glocks ALWAYS go bang when you need them too. 4th generation is really nice to shoot. I shoot the gen 3 and love it.
If we were supposed to be vegetarian God would have made broccoli more fun to shoot!
"HOYT" why would you even consider shooting something else?

with the exception of 10mm, most auto (service pistol) calibers are not great stoppers of large beasts.. there have been stops of large bears with 9 and .45, but really the only way you stop big bears with these is penetration.. by hitting the brain or spine, (or just hitting him a bunch) and a 9 has just as much penetration as a .40 or .45- the .40 and .45 do make a wider hole, and that does make a difference if you have time for him to bleed out enough.. can you (or she) shoot a 9 better? or faster? in the time it takes you to get off 3 rounds of .45 (or .40, recoil is the same) how many rounds of 9 would you have fired? remember that 9 ammo is significantly cheaper than the others, and magazine capacity always favors the 9..  how many predators in Wa are more likely to be of the "200lbs and less" variety?  with any of these calibers the absolute most important thing is how well you shoot it..

I've got a glock 30 gen 4 and love it. If you look at glocks, they don't do the SF anymore, the gen 4 took on its size.  Glocks aren't pretty but dangit they're reliable.

Stay away from the EAA WITNESS 10mm. I had one and it wouldn't shoot. It jammed and stovepiped. It was in for repairs longer that I had it. I sent it back two times and each time it came back, it was worse than when I sent it in.
