Looking for a good affordable camera

Looking for suggestions on a affordable SLR type camera.  What do you use or recommend.  Any feed back on the Canon Rebel XS???  Thanks.
Will hunt for food.

i use a canon 1d, killer camera, its big but it takes great shots and its super fast. the canon xs is ok, get the xsi though, its a little better, worth the extra buck, also its not the camera, its the lens, so buy a body only and get a lens thats going to serve you as needed, the kit lens is kinda poor
when all else fail, grab the browning machine gun

I use the Canon 20D.

Thanks guys, I will do a search on here, should of did that first.  I was just looking at the Canon Rebel at Costco for 550.00 but its a kit.  Will just look for a body and maybe used. 
Will hunt for food.

If you are looking used, I've seen Canon 20Ds for under $400.  I sold one last year for $475 when I upgraded to a 1D and now kick myself for not keeping it as a smaller backup.  Check craigslist or www.fredmiranda.com (you might have to register to access the Buy/Sell forum, but it is a great site).  For most users the 8 MP are enough. 

You can also find good used lenses.  Good ones lose about 20% of their new value then stay there.
