Everystrike $3 Survival Lighter
« on: March 21, 2014, 08:12:40 AM »
I saw this on FaceBook today. The lighter is free with $2.95 S&H. I ordered 5 to give out to students with perfect scores on Hunter Ed tests. They then try to sell you on a membership to Survival Life - 19.95/mo, which I listened to but didn't do.

Amazon sells this too.  Nice to have, it looks like this lighter requires lighter fluid though and may need to be replenished often.

According to the literature, it seals tight and has "virtually no evaporation". I would certainly fill it at the beginning of the seasons and check it a few times.

My update on this gizmo:  Bought 4 of them on Amazon for $1.97 apiece, Filled with Ronsonol lighter fluid and at first had some difficulty in getting the match to light.  Also there is some kind of protective cap on the matchstick striker end that needs to be scrapped off before using.  Once my technique improved, which involved putting much, much more thumb pressure while striking works well now and reliably ignites the match usually no more than 2 strike attempts.  The metal match has a cotton type wick, it helps to "Fluff" it, and the match cap is sealed with an O-ring so it will retain the lighter fluid what should be for a while.
