Monday Boat Work
« on: March 24, 2014, 10:52:39 AM »
Getting the yard work done on Sat. and Sun. so I can work on the boat on Mon. This way I'll have the boat done by the time for some serious fishing on the coast   New pole holders, windshield wipers, gas tanks. Wash and wax ( at least 3 coats of wax) Treating windshields and side glass. New trailer lights, grease bearings, new winch belt, bow rope, and side tie downs. Should be done about June

I've owned boats for the better part of 30 years. Not a newbe here.

I spent last two days in the boat.  My Trojan battery finally died after 9 years so replaced it.  Changed all the zinc anodes including the internal one on the kicker.  I should have taken pictures of all the salt build up.  I was really surprised, and I flush religiously after each use in  the salt.  And the kicker is only three years old.  I have to tackle the internals on the 90hp next week.

I spent all of yesterday installing my old Humminbird and a new Lowrance after last spring's mishap.  The Humminbird doesn't seem to recognize that there is a depth transponder attached and will only read the gps.  The new Lowrance thinks it is 7.1 feet deep in my driveway... UUUghhh!

It is crazy how much time stuff takes.

COHOHO- to answer your q. It had 4 cylinder Volvo AQ140A with 280 drive. I bought whole transom with older 5L V8 and 280 attached to it. The engine was in bad shape so I took it to have it rebuild and do some mods like rolling cam, heat exchanger, Pietronix ignition etc ,4barrel carb . In themeantime I removed the whole outdrive incl.the collar ...and installed the V8 rated 280 drive.Hadto do some mods since the Y pipe was wider than the space between stringers, replaced shifting cable, put new bellows on etc...I sold the 4cylinder on Craigslist to pay for some of the cost of the rebuilding.I didn't rebuild the engine myself -had machine shop do it and marine mechanic to install it and tune it ....I'm doing most of the stuff myself with ocasional help from my fishing buddy .

Pretty cool, not much of a mechanic myself, so always curious when people put things together and they work... I always have left over parts.. :chuckle:

Those left over parts are called "Pocket Parts"  They come in real handy later on down the road  :yike:

With the rain Sat. and more today, I got to work a little on the Lady Becky ll. Quick Draw and I put a CB radio in (antenna match at 1.2   ), and got the convertible top sliding real nice

Dang I can't wait to start fishing the coast this year.   :cmp1:
