Who is chasing the Easterns ?
«
on:
March 27, 2014, 09:12:06 AM »
I have seen more vehicles parked at the gates this year than I am used to seeing.
my "secret" spots are no longer secret...
I try to kick any droppings off the roads and trails so nobody else finds them, but does not seem to be working.
With all the new logging that happened at my #1 spot, open gate and high truck traffic has forced me to try other areas and there has been someone at my "back up gates"
I have been forced to go to a new area, good news that I did find some Turkeys, and just curious, how many are going to be out in Western Wa for Turkeys?
I am concentrating on getting my daughter into some for the youth season, so will be checking those (previously occupied) gates, wondering if any members here are hunting near Centralia/Chehalis/Adna/Doty, if so, maybe a meet/greet, and swap some lies..

Easterns take time. I don't have that much. Maybe after I retire. Years ago I used to go, but I had time then.

Not me. I'll be lucky to get a merriam from under someone's bird feeder probably.
I'll be taking my son out for youth season. Can't wait. I really hope he can get bird.

My wife is going to give me hand with some scouting this year. My son got a nasty cold and passed it on to the rest of us so we're running a little behind. I went out last year for several weeks, before the opener, looking for phantoms but came up short. I did have a great hike with my shotgun on opening day, it was quite beautiful that morning. I'm dedicated to getting into some birds but I have a feeling it might be a few years. I'm too stubborn to give up!

Taking My Daughter for them this weekend, my old spot gets hit pretty hard and has been found. but it's far enough back I don't think most would take their kids in there....could be wrong though. regular season I found out it is getting hammered now. Pops went in there but I never made it, said lots of folks in there just walking around and busting everything up

MM that little alder stick in front of the tom in your pic, will be replaced by a snare come opening.....
If that was your cam I saw. I wont tell anyone! I spotted the cam before it spotted me, and snuck behind it. Going scouting tonight, have a rumor I am checking out about easterns roosting on a roof and pounding on their window..
