380 in 38 special
« on: March 31, 2014, 01:26:14 PM »
can you shoot a 380 cartridge in a 38 special gun?   the reason I am asking is that my 380's will not recycle tulammo and I don't want to shoot it in my 38 special cuz it might damage it or me.    I might have to buy a 280 revolver.   mike w

No. A  .380 is actually slightly smaller in diameter than a  .38.

You can fire most any rimless or auto 9mm/.380 cartridge in a 357 or 38 revolver that can use moon or star clips. as long as the cylinder length is sufficient. There have been several revolvers offered over the years that can shoot everything from .380auto all the way up to .357mag. The auto rounds just headspace on the case mouth rather then the rim in those.

Personally, I wouldn't shoot anything that the gun is not labeled to do. Your just asking for problems.

With the baby moon clips you can.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

The .380 Auto is a 9mm (.356 diameter) and the 38 Special bullet is .357 diameter, so if you can get moon clips to make them fit, you should have no problem.  How accurate they will be depends on your gun...  :twocents:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"
