Youth turkey opener
« on: April 01, 2014, 09:45:11 AM »
Anyone got any info to lend on where to take my 12 year old turkey hunting during the youth opener on the 5th and 6th? Never hunted turkey's before! Had a buddy that was going to let us hunt private property but his family emergency takes priority, now we are in the wind. Please pm me

:dunno: over here on this side  you might give  capital forest  a try i know they have put birds in there . Minot  isnt a bad area to try  .buddy lives down that way and he has birds out in his feilds  lots of times.   also down towards  long view  are some spots to look in to
most folks head east of the mts  in early spring   so hope this was of some help

Capitol Forest or Skookumchuck area would be the closest to Oly.  However be prepared to burn a lot of time and shoe leather just to find sign or birds.   Easterns account for less than 1% of the state harvest and you can take just 1 and only in the spring season.  I would suggest NE corner of the state such as Stevens County (ie - Colville/ Kettle Falls/ Chewelah/ Rice/ Hunters/ Springdale), Ferry County, or Pend Oreille  where historically 2/3 to 3/4 of the state harvest happens.

We had planned to hunt between spokane and 49 degrees north on my buddies property now we are going to have to hunt public land any one know an area around 49 degrees that holds birds this time of year? i.e. this weekend?

Just about anywhere below snow line will have birds. They are gobbling at everything right now. Locate birds on Friday and get on em Saturday mornin. Or better yet knock some doors. Good luck. I have 3 going also.
