My first post on this tremendous site! I've been hunting with my son all over the Wet Side for the past 3 years, learning areas and getting a LOT of exercise, but not a single trigger pulled. Today was the first chance we had to get out this year due to his military duties, and our first season with muzzies.  We gear up and he heads off the end of the road wilst I start busting brush.  I only got a stone's throw distance from the truck when I hear the BOOOOOM.... sounded like it went off right behind me!  Turns out a doe was standing at the bottom of the gully as my son came over the edge. A perfect shot, took 4 steps and fell over.  Seeing as how I, with all year to plan, left the house without either a packframe or rope, my son demonstrated the determination of the Army Rangers  and just carried the doe 150 yards out of the steep gully like a casualty! Not even field-dressed; that would have cut down on the fun factor.  :chuckle: A great memory that will have to last through next season, as he will be spending next Fall hunting where the the quarry shoots back.

Elkfan2 - As a matter of fact, it was; first time hunting the area to boot!  Were you up there too, or did the trees look familiar?  :)

I live not too far from there and have hunted that timber patch a few times so it looked familiar. Congrats.
