Hope you guys don't mind me posting some photos of my Oregon bird I killed this morning.  Love seeing all those big ole Merriam's!!!

Heard a bird gobbling at daylight on a distant ridge, so off I went. After crossing the creek and getting back on top, I heard the tom gobbling on his own below me. I closed the distance and bumped some deer, so I decided to find a good set up to call from. I let out a series of yelps and tossed in a few cutts, he replied with a double gobble.  :) Maybe 90 seconds later I could see his fan, and as he disappeared behind some manzanita brush I heard him spittin & drumming all the way to 20 yds where I said "hey you" to get him out of strut. BOOM

Best turkey pictures I have seen on here. Nice work.

Here are mine and my hunting partners opening morning Merriam's. Drove to the blues that evening for a short hunt that night and next morning with no luck.  Congrats to the birds harvested so far.

All these photos are making my upcoming turkey hunt seem so far away.  Thursday will not get here soon enough!  Great job on those Toms

Nice birds. I like the first picture. Most people don't realize how much color they have in them. I've tried several times with the bow but always seem to get busted. Were you in a blind?

Yeah, shots were 21 and 35 yards.  I have taken a half dozen or so out of the blind, but a blind is MUCH easier for sure!  Almost too easy if you are hunting with Bearpaw ;) But as I get older I sort of like sitting on my bum and watching instead of chasing through the ticks and pitch.  I could have shot either of those birds at 8 yards, but waited until I had a straight away shot into the back.  That's my favorite shot with the bow.  Neither bird went 10 yards.  Both shots entered between hips and exited out within an inch of the beard.  As you can see in that first pic the beard is matted with blood - almost cut it off :o  I'd have preferred it was one or two inches higher, but on that shot being a little low isn't a problem.  Broadside, low shots can make recovery dang tough!

Not sure how I missed the first page on this thread...I worry about myself at times :chuckle:

jblackburn - That bird is flawless!  I'm not much into mounting birds, but I'd have to do it on that beautiful bird.  Fantastic!!!

Brushhunter - Nice to see more birds going down with a bow these days.  Nice job!  Always amazes me a dumb little turkey can stop an arrow that would squirt through an elk and keep on going.  Whackmaster's second bird was a tank of a turkey.  I've seen him bust the shoulder on an elk and still get full penetration.  But that dang bird stopped his arrow dead center just like yours.  Did the trick though!

Here's a pic of Whackmaster's second bird.  That's a 27.5" FMJ 340 for reference - Big bugger!

Went out Friday afternoon after work and had toms give me the slip twice in two different spots.  Went to a third spot Saturday morning and had a jake and two year old, 6" beard, before 6 am, tagged out and done!  Now to decide, shed hunting or pike fishing!

So on opening day the morning hunt turned into a winner for the tom's as they would not come in. Then into the woods and I walked up on one tom shot and missed. The afternoon was different as two toms came in and only one left. The bird weighed 22 pounds and had a true 9 inch beard but the odd thing was he has some hairs in his beard that were 14 inches long. Hunting out of Buck Canyon Lodge. Enjoy!!
