More severe than the penalties given out in my area...

No that is more like the sentences that should be given out for a hard core poacher. Kudos. Does anybody know anything on the background of this puke?

The gun charge carries a 5 year sentence.  The drug charges all carry the potential multi year sentences (depending on where he is on a points scale). The wildlife charges more than likely were just lumped in with the others in the plea agreement. In reality they probably had little bearing on his overall sentence.  It does look good from a PR standpoint and hopefully is a deterrent for future poachers.

That is very true. Sounds like he was a POS all around.

:yeah:
Exactly what I thought.

When I look at this I see the fine for the WDFW charges and the prison time for the gun  :twocents:

Awesome news! Its too bad that the sentencing was most likely a result of the firearms charge and the drugs. If it was just poaching i feel it would be the typical crap sentence. :twocents:

The gun charge is a huge point of leverage for the prosecutor (we should be thankful they had it). I also see the monetary fine as largely symbolic too. If he does serve his debt to society and turn his life around he will forfeit his earnings while in prison (to pay towards fines), set up a payment schedule with the court, stay in compliance for a short period and the petition the court to forgive the Civil penalties.  :twocents:

Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

When I first read it I thought holy cow...finally a hardcore poacher getting what they deserved!  Glad he is behind bars but his poaching definitely is not what caused the 5 year sentence.

The biggest draw back is the charges are to be served concurrently rather than consecutively. Glad the guy got charged and will see the 60 months in prison, but he could have nearly doubled the time behind bars if they were served consecutively...
Wishing I was fishing...or in Wyoming
