The gun charge carries a 5 year sentence. The drug charges all carry the potential multi year sentences (depending on where he is on a points scale). The wildlife charges more than likely were just lumped in with the others in the plea agreement. In reality they probably had little bearing on his overall sentence. It does look good from a PR standpoint and hopefully is a deterrent for future poachers.

If it was just poaching i feel it would be the typical crap sentence. When I first read it I thought holy cow...finally a hardcore poacher getting what they deserved! Glad he is behind bars but his poaching definitely is not what caused the 5 year sentence.

We all should just be happy that he is getting put in the clink and wont be out poaching for the next 5 years. in reality i would bet that most poachers are going to have a bunch of other legal issues in their lives and when they get caught it all comes out.

I just dont feel like this sentence will discourage him from poaching when he gets out. Maybe he will just do it without drugs next time. The only thing stopping him from poaching might be the firearms conviction. He can still use archery though.
to say but he won't be in jail 5 years, I bet less then 2 if he behaves while in there. If he does poach again with a prior he will get nailed hard.
