Great article, thanks for posting the link.

The gun charge carries a 5 year sentence.  The drug charges all carry the potential multi year sentences (depending on where he is on a points scale). The wildlife charges more than likely were just lumped in with the others in the plea agreement. In reality they probably had little bearing on his overall sentence.  It does look good from a PR standpoint and hopefully is a deterrent for future poachers.
:yeah: Glad he is going away for a while but this sentence has little to do with the poaching.

Awesome news! Its too bad that the sentencing was most likely a result of the firearms charge and the drugs. If it was just poaching i feel it would be the typical crap sentence. :twocents:
:yeah:
When I first read it I thought holy cow...finally a hardcore poacher getting what they deserved!  Glad he is behind bars but his poaching definitely is not what caused the 5 year sentence.

You guys are never satisfied. We all should just be happy that he is getting put in the clink and wont be out poaching for the next 5 years. in reality i would bet that most poachers are going to have a bunch of other legal issues in their lives and when they get caught it all comes out.

Yeah, he didn't get time for the game violations. People should but they don't.

I understand what youre trying to say. I just dont feel like this sentence will discourage him from poaching when he gets out. Maybe he will just do it without drugs next time. The only thing stopping him from poaching might be the firearms conviction. He can still use archery though.

Poachers don't care about licenses or what weapons they are using because they don't plan to get caught. It is like when they say a convicted poacher can't buy a license for 3 years. Big deal! Either way they won't buy a license so they could care less. It is like a parent telling a kid he has to stay in his room all day as punishment and then leaving for the day. You think that kid won't leave his room?

:yeah: i agree 100%. He knows that his 5 year sentence did not stem from the poaching conviction. It wont stop him. If he got 5 years for just the poaching and then more added on for the weapons and drug charges then maybe it would make an impact.

It stopped him though... for 5 years for sure. When he gets out and if he poaches again it wont be with a bow it will be with a rifle again. then when he gets caught again his sentencing and time is going to get compounded because of the firearm conviction. Be happy he got what he did and hopefully learns his lesson if not.... well.  Im sure people will be watching him when he gets out.

He got 5 years it dont matter from what, ultimately it was the poaching that got him........

:sry: to say but he won't be in jail 5 years, I bet less then 2 if he behaves while in there. If he does poach again with a prior he will get nailed hard.  :bash:

Yes, I'm sure if he poaches again he'll lose his hunting privileges for two years. :bash:
