I understand both sides of this but does that mean they should be able to use ORV's to patrol wilderness areas just so they can get around faster and contact more people? Seems kind of the same to me.

Seems kind of the same to me.As with my observation that maybe they could use the electric motor until speed is absolutely necessary, I would say that if there were a life-or-death wilderness emergency, by all means they should be able to use any means possible to deal with it. Otherwise, no. And, I think that's pretty much how they work it now.
Of course not, they are part of the elite ruling class...
What would you have done to LEO's performing their job? LEOs drive over the speed limit to catch violators, carry guns into banks, bars, etc.... They have a whole bunch of extra's they can do that you can't. Is this what is bugging you? Not sure I get your anger...
I strongly disagree. Wilderness is set aside specifically for the experience of people to appreciate and deal with on a primitive premodern footing. Should you die or suffer an injury or be lost you and your pards will have to deal with that at the basic level. No choppers or mech transport is or should be employed to save your bacon. If you can't handle that reality then don't go in there.
And if you get creamed by a semi on I-5, then by golly roll that corpse off the roadway and keep that traffic moving so I'm not late for anything.
From what I understand, Wilderness rules forbid any motorized access even for LEO's and Fed agencies whether patroling or doing other work. Even for rescues and evac situations, most the time it is done on foot or pack animals. But I think there are provisions for helicopter uses and other exceptions for emergencies. Is this correct?
Opening day there's usually always a few folks that flip their boat. I think people would change their views real quick if a speed boat got to them and their kids within seconds of flipping. The lake waters are damn cold this time of year and hypothermia can set in real fast.Besides what's one gas engine one day outta the year gonna hurt anyways?
