fishing rod repair?

Anyone have any tips to repair a broken rod about 4" from the tip right above the first eye?....think I may just have to take the eye off and put a new tip on?

Yeah, not many fixes for this point in the blank, I would shorten the rod.

Yeah, for 4 inches, that is likely the easiest way.  What material is it?  For graphite, I've just cut with a saw, then sand down and put a new tip with epoxy.  Fiberglass, you could sand and wrap/re-glass...it might not flex right or look good, but guide spacing would be the same.

Its graphite....my 4yr old got a little excited when I was landing my big trout on sat and wasn't watching where he was stepping and  stepped on the tip of his rod...he was pretty bummed out about it so it needs to be fixed...I looked to get a tip from cabelas yesterday but they were sold out so I was just lookin at other options but that looks to be the best way

 If the rod is hollow, you can sometimes make a repair like a mortise & tennon joint in furniture, using the rod pieces as a sleeve. Hard part is finding proper material. small diameter wire epoxied in one one piece (let cure, then epoxy other piece) If only you could easily get small diameter carbon fiber or fiberglass rod material!! I have done it with wire or cut nail, but not sure what is going to happen if I have a large fish on (one piece casting rod, broke when I was moving- Gander mountain guide series rod) There are DIY options.     Red Leaf  ps if the rod is a two piece you can replace just the top section. I find rods at yard sales sometimes ( good graphite ones on occasion!)  The rod works better at it's intended length.

How fine is the rod tip? Just remembered I have some rod tips that could be cut for tennons to be sleeved/epoxied rather than using wire or cut nail in broken area.      E

Any repair shop should have a bunch of tips of all sizes for sale. If you want to come to Spokane to get it fixed, i would recommend Steve's custom rods and repair. He fixed my fly rod for $1.50. Might be worth the drive...

I've been through every stage of rod repair/attempted repair... believe me when I say, unless it's a rod you are really attached to for some reason, you are probably better off getting a new one.

That's not to say you don't have options:
1. Cut it off, get new tip: it won't be close to the same rod you had...
2. Try an insert type repair: see #1 above- probably wasted effort that close to the tip. Lower half of a heavier rod it's realistic.
3. Return to manufacturer... if it's a higher end rod they may be able to sell you one if is not covered by a warrantee (and it sounds like it's not).
4. Repair shop might have a tip to match...might not... could work out well but you'd need to get lucky... there are so many rods and they're all a little different.
5. Buy another rod to match it. I started doing this when my boys were young (and hard on rods). Instead of getting 3 different rods- get 3 of the same so the halves are interchangable.

These are not expensive rods by any means...there only $25 cabelas ultra light rods but as fast as my kids are going through them I thought I'd just try to fix them first ....I did end up finding a tip for one at cabelas and will probably just remove one eyeon the other one and put a new tip on it and let them use those this year

Fix and hand to the little whipper snapper that broke it... He will never know the difference...

I caught more fish on snapped off and repaired, too short, weird guide placement, mismatching half rods than good ones.

Fish don't seem to mind.

That was my plan ice  I figured by the time he's old enough to take care of a nice rod this one will probably have one eye left
