I give up on elk in the Selkirks

I give up in the Selkirks.  This past year hunting elk was too frustrating!  I had three days to hunt and had my area scouted pretty well.  I had a good game plan for my hunt but was unable to go up my mountain because of that stupid national Christmas tree!  I was told not to go up the road because the Governor and all of his foreign dignitaries were up there selecting the perfect tree.  I tried to go up anyway and was escorted down by none other than the FBI      I'm going to look southeast towards the blues and in the rimrock area because I am too pissed to hunt in the selkirks.

Maybe I should ask Jay Inslee for a special tag; I think he kinda owes me one.

Elk hunting in that part of the state isn't easy when everything goes well, let alone when something gets in the way.  Always have more than one area scouted.  The NE corner isn't for everyone and it's far from easy.

You are totally right about that Jburke.  It takes a ton of scouting and a ton of spent boot leather.  See em every year, just cant seem to get a shot off.  I will keep scouting, but I think this year I will diversify and hunt some different mountains.  Still love the Selkirks for whitetail!

I hunted the Selkirks for a number of years for Whitetails, and even that is hard!

Yes, there are.  I jumped one out of its bed a few years back, when I had a tag for the early Elk muzzleloader season along with whitetails.  Heard him run through the woods like a Volkswagen going end-over-end, but in the early season the leaves are still on the trees, and I never saw him!  I never hunted the early season again...

Lol, I most certainly have never voted for Obama or Jay Inslee!  I think he owes me one because him cutting down a tree required over a hundred law enforcement officials and killed my plans for elk hunting.  HE OWES ME ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I dont think he will be willing to give me that governors tag for elk.

Have you thought about jumping over the state border and hunting a much, much better elk season and area in Idaho?  I live in the same state as you do brother but spend the majority of my hunting dollars and time in a state that gives me a much better hunt.

I usually spend all my time in ID these days its to close and way more opportunity, but this year I am switching it up and going to hunt hard in NE WA  and try to put one of those elusive giant bulls down up there.

Doesn't sound near as bad as "the rainbow people" who were camped out across the river a couple years back. (Thousands of them)
I had several altercations with them that year and finely gave up and hunted else where.

I have thought about hunting in Idaho!  I will have to go do some scouting over there and make up my mind.  I know a lot of people who do hunt in NE Idaho, I have just never done it myself.

Funny this time of year guys try to steer other hunters away from there areas . There's elk up there but it aint easy and for the faint hearted . probilly a way better idea to hunt the Blues

You'd probably SEE more elk in the blues pretty easily.  Most likely more people as well though.  I switched it up after hunting in the NE corner for 6 years or so.  Went down to the Yakima area last year for the first time.  I thought it would be a nice change of pace to at least find elk consistently and I had a buddy that hunts down there also.  If I don't draw any special permits I'll stay to the NE corner most likely.

I love the challenges the Selkirk's offer. Plus it's nice to be close to home. Last year I took a good spill and unfortunately my rifle took most of the pain. I was able to run home and re-sight in my rifle and be back in the woods for the evening hunt.  Being close really cuts down on scouting costs for me( gas $)
