Shed season

When is the earliest you have found a fresh elk or deer shed? I have found deer sheds in late January and elk as early as mid March.

I have never found one in early January because I dont want to move critters around. But once in a while I see one that has dropped early in January through my spotter.

A buddy of mine shot a 'doe' in mid dec. in unit 564, (any deer). He got up to it to see it was a buck that had shed already.

i have seen shed blacktails as earley as jan 1st. i think it depends on the health of the buck and the winter he is going through. on average i find sheds jan 15 like clock work.

I think my earliest is December 15th, but thats pretty rare.  I am with Wastickslinger.  These guys out tromping around trying to be the early bird just stress out the bucks and make it harder to find them later.  I still see them packing in March in the desert especially.  It generally starts about the first week of January.  I hope folks give them a break this year.
