Volunteer Info
« on: May 10, 2014, 10:17:45 AM »
Does anyone have a link (or links) to websites which post volunteer projects in Washington?  I used to have a link that listed projects and dates (i.e. fence repair/removal, weed control, etc.), but it got lost during a computer transfer.  The one I had showed projects that were tied to the RMEF, but it wasn't on the RMEF site.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Thanks Brush Hunter!  I was actually looking for sites specifically for outdoor projects like fence repair, elk collaring, etc.  These links appear to be more United Way, community type.

I'm on a list and recently received this email:

Quote
Good Morning,

I’m happy to announce an exciting, RMEF-exclusive volunteer project has become available at the end of the month.

In August, RMEF volunteers started a project in the Oak Creek Area above the Oak Creek Feeding Station near Naches and we have been invited back to help continue work on the project.  We will be building buck and rail fencing around the aspen stand we thinned in August and doing some additional thinning.  There are only 40 volunteer spots available so be sure to reserve your spot today!!

When: May 30th and 31st.  Can’t volunteer for two days?  No problem!  You can volunteer for one or both of the days – whatever fits your schedule is great.

Where/Rally Point: Oak Creek Wildlife Area near Naches, WA.  We will rally at the feeding station on the 30th at 8:00 am. From there we will proceed to the work area.

Equipment Needed: Gloves, safety glasses. hammers etc. will be needed. Those using chain saws will require hard hats, gloves, hearing protection & chaps that will be provided. Also you will need to bring gas and oil for your saws. Be sure to bring a lunch, I will have a cooler full of water for drinks.

To Register: http://www.wdfw.wa.gov/about/volunteer/
If you go to the site above and click on volunteer for a project it will prompt you to create a profile of your interests and skills. Remember to click on Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation as an interest. This project is limited to elk foundation volunteers. After you have a profile click on service projects. When this opens go to the bottom of the drop down and you will find Oak Creek RMEF fencing May 30,31. Click on the project and then click on register. If you have any problems, please contact Rick Barlin (360-280-9361) and he can get you registered with the WDFW Oak Creek supervisor.

Additional Information:
There is trailer and tent camping available up the Oak Creek Road. The turn off to the road is about 400 yards past the feeding station as you are heading west on Hwy 12 toward White Pass. Proceed up the Oak Creek Road about 3.2 miles and on your left is a big open field and fairly flat. There is plenty of room for several rigs. There is also a big stone fire pit there.  The gravel road is wash board and pot holed. I suggest you travel slowly.

Youth are able to volunteer as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

If you have questions or need help registering, please respond to this email or contact Rick Barlin at (360) 280-9361.

Thank you and I hope to see some of you on May 30 & 31!!
Stephanie
