lake chelan high buck

so just sitting around looking at the maps and curious on the access from the lake for the high buck hunt. The looks of the map u can pull right up? if so hows the terrain? is it all cliffs or easy access from the shoreline? (easy as in i dont need to bring repel gear and climbing harness lol)

There's placed you don't need rappelling gear but I don't know if I'd call it "easy".

We use to hunt it mainly from the top to the bottom and have a boat waiting to pick us up.  We also have hunted from the lake up but have found because of thermals it was really tough to get onto critters without them nailing you.  Well that and the fact that it is practically straight up where the bruisers seem to like hiding.

Bring your own boat rent one or ride the slow boat and look up on the trip uplake. Holden is closed so no rides from them to trailheads. Plenty of trails once you get to Stehekin.

The problem with using the established trails is that you will run into a lot of granola eaters who could mess up your hunt.  If you do go with a non commercial boat, you have better be a pretty damn good skipper.  In the early evening the upper lake turns nasty and if you don't know what you are doing, you might find yourself in big trouble, fast!

Rio Tinto is spending 100 million to clean it up. So it is off limits until the snow is to deep each fall.

Access on the South shore is very limited. North Shore isn't open for the high hunt. Like all have said it is steep, the wilderness doesn't start until basically Lucerne.

This is like the third post on this same topic (basically) in the past few weeks...ok, since the first couple of post didn't get the point through we must give up and confess...this is a super easy hunt on flat ground with big bucks behind every tree...ok enough sarcasim but in reality before asking questions please do yourself a favor and search the forums for related topics and you would have answered your own questions....its mountain goat country....hence the high school mascot the Chelan Goats (my class tried to change it to the Lakers in 1992 when we moved to the new high school but the old timers weren't going to budge...)

The lake is dangerous if you don't realize you are completely out of communication uplake and the waves can come up instantly, the mountains are either cliffs or extremely steep and Sept still has the daily temps in the 70's-80's...other than that...break out the maps and good luck...I'll see you at the top of the mountain (were I started on a trail already 2,000 ft up from the lake)

ok that would be very interesting to see these post u speak of i am on here daily and usually read almost every post and i have yet to see one about hiking in from the lake side in a couple years! i could be 100% wrong but i have yet to see them

Courtneys can pack you and your gear in pretty nice places for an early high hunt. You would see other hikers but they are not hunting and shouldn't run their mouth to much or you could hike in other trails for miles and see nothing
