Boat motor problem
« on: May 17, 2014, 07:53:56 AM »
Looking at buying a motor from someone but it has one issue I'm unsure of. It's said to be a good running motor but after a few minutes of run time the oil lights goes off
Indicating low oil pressure. Not sure what the problem is but would like to figure it out before making an investment in buying it. Any thoughts. Appreciate the help

Did you check the oil level?  Clean filter?  If neither of these fixes it, I would run away....

Has the current owner continued to run it while the light is off? Or has he shut it down each time the light goes off? Is it being run with the recommended oil weight?

Could be a reminder light, if the oil has been changed and level is good. Depending on the year some motors have an oil change reminder that has to be resest after oil change is performed, if not reset after oil change the reminder light will keep coming on. This was happening on my brothers Suzi, had him spooked thinking he had low pressure until he took it to the dealer who showeed him how to reset the light.
