the reason not many customs are built on mark v's is due to the action cost, the work to true up ALL the action lugs and the ease of a remington, simple, round, easy to square.

I have wby's ultralight super big game master and it is a sweet rifle, but I would not even put it in the same cabinet as my greg tannel built rifle.

The 270 and 7WSMs aren't far behind the Weatherbys at all. Worth looking at them. I've always liked the 257 Weatherby. The big 300 blows the WSM away. But 270 and 7mm... there isn't too big of a difference.

I own a mark V 270 with a Boyds thumbhole stock that i had installed. This gun has killed deer a ranges from 150yards to 330 yards, it is flat shooting and accurate.I shoot 140 grain federal trophy bond bearclaws about $30.00 a box at midway usa on sale. I also have had a 300 weatherby also very accurate. I shoot my 300win tikka t3 lite more due to gun weight and cheaper ammo, the mark v is just to heavy to pack all day.The tikka is the best factory rifle in the price range hands down, it is an absolute tack driver right out the box. If your heart is set on weatherby the 270 is a fine choice if not tikka in 270wsm is one to look at.

I have a 28 yr old Mark V .257 Wby that I would not trade for anything.  The rifle is a little heavy, but a great cartridge.
It never changes, but it is always different.
