Craig,
Last year there were about 17 spikes and 5 or six branch bulls. A few stay year round but most head back to the dairy late in the year.

A couple of local families kill a few every year, but for the most part they are pretty safe.

keep in mind that some of the land that the power lines are on are federal property and we are at work all through the season.  But good luck to ya all  .  US Dept of Energy, BPA

Can you say more about this? How does it change the legal situation on hunting there? Is there a way to check if, say, a tree cut under a power line is federal property?

There were at least 10 branched bulls already in the group. maybe more. It's nice to see the herd growing in size. They sure cause a traffic jam when they are out .

Everyone in the area knows about them, only a a very few know where they go and how to hunt them.  Once season is upon us they will stay on private land, travel at night can be 10 miles away in a single night.  There are 2 types of people who hunt that herd successfully, those who are very dedicated and poachers.   :twocents:

Ran into one of your old buddies hunting them a couple years ago while I was hunting a late deer permit.
