horse clams

I was just wondering what this could possibly be. Went out and dug some horse clams today probably over 75% of the ones we got had these spots on them.

according to WDFW website  "clams often harbor small commensal pea crabs which are easily observed when opening the clams for cleaning and which in no way affect the clam as a human food source be " under horse clam description. just a guess.

Thanks Jackson7. The pea crabs were also in them but they are an actual visible crab that crawled out..unless these are it's babies??? I don't know. I guess if it worries me this bad, I just shouldn't eat them..what a waste!!

Toss in the freezer, then talk to WDFW clam bio.  If you're not going to eat them, at least use them for bait for something.

I was going to call the wife but figured on a Saturday, no one would be available.  Probably would make good crab bait. They are in the freezer. Hate to waste anything, especially after the hard work.
