West Goat Rocks Quality Elk
« on: June 11, 2014, 05:28:35 PM »
Drew the West Goat Rocks Quality Elk Tag for Modern Firearm.  Excited for the hunt but I don't know the area.  Unfortunately the archery season only ends two days before my hunt starts but it should still be a good hunt.  Any info/tips for this area/hunt would be greatly appreciated.  Now I just have a lot of research and scouting to do in the next three months.

Not a bunch of elk but should be a successful hunt, has been some big bulls killed in the area.  Prob would shoot anything over 300" unless you've killed a bunch of bulls.   :twocents:

Archery hunters won't effect your hunt in any way, weather could tho :twocents:

I have shot quite a few elk, but nothing of any size. I would be very happy with a bull over 300. By weather affecting the hunt, do you mean too warm? Thanks for the comments/info.

5 days after bow season will be prime time. I believe that's the best westside rifle tag you can draw.

There are some great bulls in there. They will be screaming that time of year. It is some steep country but definitely a hunt you will enjoy. Congrats

Big country.  You'll earn it if and when you find the bull you want.

I'm starting to see a theme here! I'm in pretty good shape but will be working harder at it over the next three months. Guess you can never be in too god of shape. Thanks for the comment. Excited for this hunt. If anyone has a general location to start at it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Get some National Forest maps of that area, there are some trails you can hike to get in there, they should be on the forest maps. GOOD LUCK
