Atleast you should be able to show him some moose.

My boy has not shot a buck yet. He has an elk under his belt.  He gets to shoot what he wants.

If he shoots a fork that's his choice. I believe in educating to the point of good decision making.

He wants to shoot a big buck. So that is what we will shoot for.

When I said it was good that the permit was for any buck because he wouldn't have to take the time to count points, I wasn't saying that he should shoot a small buck.

Often a deer is moving and you can't count points but you still know it's a big buck. But you can't shoot if you can't verify that it has 4 points on a side. Or it could be standing in the brush looking at you, and you see massive antlers but just cannot tell for sure that it has the number of points needed to make it legal.

With the any buck tag he can shoot any buck that looks good to him . That's a big advantage, especially for an inexperienced hunter. And if the buck he shoots turns out to be a 3 point, so what? Even if it's a two point, if he's happy then what does it matter?

Keep an eye on the weather, imo the first cold snap with snow in mid Nov. can be as important as anything. Yeah the last four days are probably best but there is some great pre-rut movement just before if the weather is right

If you know how to hunt, he should have no problem filling an any buck tag in 121.
