camera card reader ?
«
on:
June 20, 2014, 11:58:54 AM »
Multiple people say they use their picture camera to preview/view the card from their trail cam.
I have yet to find a small camera that will read the cards from my trail cams. I use all Bushnell T-cams, anybody know what make of picture cam will read them? preferably a cheaper point and shoot

Nikon Coolpix S570 is what I use. It's old, about 5 years old and I'm sure that any newer ones will work.

What type of card do you use?

My canon reads mine just fine. It is a little tough on the small screen but it does give me a better idea of what I have. I sometimes pack my laptop in so that I can just upload all the pics, clean the card and put it back in.

I bought a rechargeable electronic picture frame to view my pictures on. 10" screen for about $100. Cheaper than a camera and a larger screen. Plus you can hook a thumb drive up to it and transfer the pictures off of the card.

Be careful and test a card in your camera first....you want to make sure your picture camera won't reformat your card and nuke all your pictures.

Nock Nock, like you I looked around for a cheap digital camera solely to be used for checking the SD card in the field. It turned out that my wife's expensive 35mm digital camera has an SD card, and now I carry that to check the cards. Look around your house, and check with your family members, and see if somebody doesn't already have a camera with an SD card (not a micro SD). This might solve your problem.

I primarily run Bushnell cams and if I don't take my laptop, I use a Moultrie Card reader. This card reader will read the pics from all my cams (Bushnell, Wildview, Moultrie) but it is very limited on what video files it can read. My
Bushnell's use Avi and ASF formats for video and the reader will read one format but not the other.
I have used my Canon camera to view pics and usually don't have a problem with the cards working in the Bushnell's, but often the Wildviews won't work after viewing the Canon unless I format the card on my laptop.
