Thanks for the further info folks.  The leg concern was just me being a mechanic that deals with torque and leverage a good bit.  Plus past experience with similar looking legs on other grills.  Long thin legs with a bunch of weight on them, plus uneven cement/deck.. bend, kink, snap...  Based on responses here and a bunch on pelletheads.com this is a non-issue.  Plus I will be honest the GMG has more optional addons like a nice big folding front shelf, blanket for winter cooking, remote.

As to the capacity, that is/was by far my largest concern and Mossy nailed it in not wanting to risk to small a unit.  Chances are with a more reliable grill I will use it quite a bit more.  The factory second rack was inadequit at best for my needs.  Well then just make your own!  pelletheads.com to the rescue again, and I wanted to share with you guys that might want more capacity...
OEM: just not really adding much..

DIY: single side and then double side.

I see no problem doing 2-3 shoulders as well as 1-2 packages of costco babybacks all at once with that set-up.  Gut now (and in the future) is satisfied..

Right now probably 70% of my cooking is std grilling, so the searing ability is important, but I know with grillgrates the unit can sear.  Plus I am hearing rumors that they are working on a searing option, though may not be available with the new units in August.

MOSSY: Can you PM me where you find these gmg bags of pellets, is that a normal dealer pricing thing, any flavor options?  28# for $13.95 is a good price.  I just had someone offer me 40# bags of Cookinpellets for $30 that are supposed to be a high quality pellet too.

In my smoker I use Applewood 95% of the time, only alter when I am running low, and then mix in hickory...

FYI as mentioned I am hearing that new models are coming out in August, They are adding wifi remote and some other features.  Maybe keep eyes out for the old units going on sale even more.  For now I am going to take the $80 discount and run!

Well I thought I wanted the traeger but after reading all these responses I went and looked at the Louisiana lg900 and think that will be the one I buy

I have ordered in a GMG Daniel Boone.  It is not being released publicly yet, but effective Aug 1 they have new versions of DB and JB coming out.  Also new (lower?) pricing.  The big change I have heard is the Remote version is being discontinued and replaced with a Wifi version at the same or maybe lower price.

Wifi has all same abilities of the remote, but runs on Iphone/droid.  The app also goes farther allowing actual programming of the unit.  Like, start 185*, run 2hrs, increase to 225* until food hits 200 and then cycle down to 170* to keep warm.  It will also of course give you full readouts of temps, time etc..

GMG isd also working on a new baffle setup to allow searing, and should be retrofit able to old units..

IF you are looking at a GMG, I would wait until after Aug 1 at this point.  they are supposed to do a big public release on the website.  Dealers should know about the upcoming change, but the 2 I spoke with claimed they did not know.  Can't blame them, they got grills instock they need to move before the prices drop and are stuck with higher cost inventory..

I have been given the OK to share this now and open up to a few people that might want to get in on it, you will have to act quickly as our order is already in, but they will allow a few more to jump on and fill a pallet load.

For the new Daniel Boone with Wifi that is being announced and released on Aug 1 the price is $650otd.  That is delivered to my place in Tacoma.  Any freight/transport beyond that would have to be arranged.  I am willing to do local/regional met ups.

I do not yet have pricing on the bare DB or on the JB, but am working on that.

Please PM me directly ASAP if you are interested.  This deal may only be available for a few days, 1st come, 1st served, etc..

These grills are bieng publicly announced on Aug 1, we have not been told if they will have them in the warehouse ready to ship that day, or a few days later or..  This is a pre order at below normal dealer pricing.

went through the same thing and ended up with a gmg instead of the traeger. I had a lil tex and loved the food but never could trust it for an over night or day long smoke. bought the Daniel boone and love it so far but its only been a couple months so cant say anything for long term use.

For everyone on here that is interested in a Traeger or Green Mountain, my local dealer sells them extremely cheap... He ships them all over the country, and his prices are still cheaper than you'll find at the majority of local dealers.

If anyone is interested, let me know.

We just bought an older used treager from a friend, it was made in Oregon.  Can't believe I like white meat now!  The food off of it is amazing, I've heard the older US made ones are better but all I know is this Thing kicks butt.
“In common with”..... not so much!!
