*Goose Quality. Traditional
« on: July 08, 2014, 07:41:58 AM »
Been putting in for over 11 years and scored a Quality for Goose Pr.I am looking at doing a drop camp through Chinook outfitters but wanted to ask some questions.(they never answer the phone). Hunting w my dad who would be going for cow spike.

Do they drop you where the elk are? or where you want to be dropped? Do they drop you near everyone and their mother who have bull tags or do they pepper their clients around the hunt area assuring isolation and tracking where their clients are w waypoints?
I am traditionalist, pack light, hunt dawn to dusk, and shoot a longbow *Roy Coursey) w Suzanne St. Charles Cedar arrows.

Thanks

do you know where to go? If you do tell them that is where you want to go and they will take you there.  If you have never been up there before then it would be hard to complain about where they are taking you, unsually small area for a "wilderness hunt" that the outfitters are using. think established trails....

You might check with Norsepeak on this forum.  He guides in this area.  Great guy!

I know the owner of chinook pass outfitters very well. My wife's friend worked for him last year at his cabin giving horse back rides. If your having a hard time reaching him take a drive over there to look the area over and stop by his cabin. It is the very first drive way off of bumping lake rd. on the right hand side. Owners name is Paul. If he isn't there whoever is doing the horse back rides this year will know.

Leave a message and Paul will call you back. I will be up there with an archery quality tag as well. He will not drop you off close to another camp he has established. I checked with him about packing out an elk and information on a drop camp.  The area I was interested was within a couple miles of a drop camp of one of his regular customers. He waited for the customer to contact him and confirm before he would commit to me. He was very direct and honest with me and I appreciate his loyalty to his customers. He did suggest another good drop camp sight but I have a couple areas I like and know better. I also don't really need a drop camp as I am set for packing in with camp on my back for extended periods of time. Archery season is his busiest time so check with him soon if you are interested in a drop camp.

Good luck.

...Get your ass into the william o every weekend and start scouting the whole area.

Working my ass off @ two full time jobs year round makes it mildly possible to sit on my ass browsing google earth to do my research but I have spent the last 6 seasons in the nw corner of bumping and want to try something different.

Paul already contacted me this morn and we are in dialogue. For those that PMed me thanks for the leads. The advice is much appreciated and good luck to all this season.
