fish oil capsules for crab attractant?

Anyone ever pop open a couple of fish oil capsules and spray it all over your crab bait for an added attractant?

I don't think it would help really. I've done some goofing with soaking, injecting, you name it with a few scents. Didn't see a lick of difference in number of crab in the pot or quality of crab.

If you are looking for a a tip or two here is my "go to tip".

You need bait that is hard to get and bait that is easy to get. GoPro footage shows me that the best numbers of crab that come in and stay in my pots are those that are baited with box or mesh bags of feed as well as free hanging meat that they can really chew on. For example. I like the mesh bags to stuff with fish/chicken, whateve, then I hang either a few flatfish or a turkey leg totally exposed. That combo seems to bring them in and keep them in.

:yeah: exactly. Like you said last year on your post H20, they do figure out how to get out of the pot while others come in if they aren't kept busy. We usually try to catch a couple bullhead and flounder right before we set the traps, then just slice their guts open and hang them from the trap; in addition with having salmon/chicken/whatever in your bait box. We average 30-40 crab in a pot within 45 minutes of soaking.

:chuckle: I like the sounds of that! Can't say we put that many hanging up though we are usually to antsy to get the pots soaking after 2 fish of either flounder and/or bullhead
