Help with form
« on: July 13, 2014, 08:11:42 PM »
So I started collapsing on my shot and I think it's due to a bum shoulder from an old injury that is acting up and not allowing me hold.  My shoulder gets shaky which caused me to hurry up my release which affected my aim which caused me to start collapsing before the release.
I've been strengthening my shoulder and it's getting better but I'm afraid I've developed a bad habit. I've read a couple articles that say to get within a couple yards of the target and shoot with your eyes closed to take your mind off the aiming portion and work on the release.

Any other pointers?

Traditional of Compound?
In either case go to a lighter poundage an work on form.   Also remember a 50 pound bow will kill and elk just as well as a 70 pound bow.   Shot placement is the key.

lighten the weight until you have perfect form?

nothing wrong with shooting 50-60 lbs draw on a modern bow, especially with a decent draw length.

edit
30 seconds too slow  :tung:

I do have a 60-70 pound compound.  I'll take it in and have it cranked all the way down, that's a good call. Might have to switch out the limbs until I can get my shoulder fixed. Been putting it off for ten years.

it may help to shoot a strap and loosen your front hand up . another thing I found that helps is to follow through on your shot ie stay on target with your sight intill you hear impact . I also found that drawing down and coming up onto the target took less time than settling in on the kill . that may speed up the process for you. not knowing witch bow you have but backing off the poundage may seriously affect your performance . maybe a newwr lower poundage bow in a 71/2 ish brace height would be the ticket a 60 lbs experience would be sweet ! :chuckle:
