Bismuth - Nice Shot Getting Checked?
« on: September 23, 2014, 05:57:41 AM »
I've been reloading non tox shot for hunting this year.  Has anyone been checked for non tox while shooting Bismuth, Nice Shot or any other non magnetic shot?
Did the warden confiscate the lot of ammo, take a sample or have something that verified that it wasn't lead in the hulls?
If ammo was taken for testing, did you get it back?

They better not be confiscating our ammo for no reason.  They have to take your word you are using legal shot and they need legal reasons why you are not.

You would be one huge idiot to give the warden your ammo for later testing because who knows what kind of mix-ups can happen with the other ammo the warden collected that day or week.  If warden asks just say nope, have a nice day.  They can ask but you don't have to.

I have seen a neat little tool that they drop a shell in and it gives them a reading as to what is in it. its a little more complex than the magnet check.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

This is what I have been checked with.  It gives them info on the metal compound I believe.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

I"ve been checked by the "metal detector" thing. It reads lots of choices. I reload different loads in lead shot hulls and they always look hard at them but I'm always legal.
Funny, one day my partner and I got checked, I'd found a loaded shell and gave it to my partner for a cripple shell(free shot). It looked good but he never shot it. Turned out to be a lead load and costed him $100 for that single shell. We had no way of knowing it was lead but the 'metal detector' showed it as lead.

If that happened within the last few years your buddy would of lost his small game license for 2 years.  Can't even hunt turkey.

Highly recommended to throw ANY found live loads into the deepest part of the river or lake.  Two miles from the truck and found a box of 10 in the blind and threw them 1 by 1 as far as I can throw.  You just never know what some smart ass will do to set you up!
